At a glance

  • Granada and Sierra Nevada combine very well: the resort is about 40 minutes from the city.
  • A 3-day plan works like this: one day for Granada, one day for the snow and a third to repeat whatever you enjoyed most.
  • The Alhambra is visited with timed entry and it is best to book in advance; do not mix it with a ski day.
  • For the journey, see how to get there and how to get up without a car.

If you are visiting Granada, you have the chance to see two worlds in a single trip: a monumental city with the Alhambra and the Albaicín, and a ski resort about 40 minutes away. Here is a 3-day plan to enjoy both without rushing, ideal if you are looking for winter plans in Andalusia.

Why combine Granada and Sierra Nevada

Few destinations let you ski in the morning, have lunch with views of the peaks and stroll through a historic city as evening falls. The closeness between Granada and Sierra Nevada makes it possible, which is why more and more travellers build their getaway around both.

3-day plan between Granada and Sierra Nevada

Day 1: Granada

Dedicate the first day to the city. The Alhambra is the essential visit and needs time: its Nasrid Palaces operate with timed entry, which tends to sell out, so it is best to book weeks in advance. In the afternoon, climb up to the Albaicín and stroll its streets, with views of the Alhambra, and head down towards the centre for dinner.

Day 2: Sierra Nevada

With Granada about 40 minutes away, the second day is for the mountain. If you ski or snowboard, arrive early to make the most of the slopes; if it is your first time, book a lesson at our school. And if you do not ski, there are sleds, slides, an ice rink and snowmobile rides: you will find it all in what to do in Sierra Nevada in winter.

  1. Book ski pass and equipment Choose your pass on the ski pass page and rent the equipment at equipment rental.
  2. Head up with time to spare See road and chains and where to park.
  3. Dinner in Pradollano If you fancy something special, an igloo at Mesit.

Day 3: more snow or more Granada

With the 2-day pass you can repeat runs without choosing a ski pass again: it is the way to get the most out of the snow. If you prefer a different pace, spend the third day continuing to discover Granada or on a relaxed plan at the resort. And if you come with children, Mirlo Blanco and the children’s rides are good for half a day.
